  • Dog story: I don't get it either. I love dogs. But I never reach out or touch someone's dog. They are not all trained to allow this. I even taught my granddaughter to always ask before petting and she knew when she was 3 years old that a dog with a vest is "working" and you are not to distract them.

  • NTA. The birthday girl was sitting at a table where all the seats were taken by other guests. You were not wrong to seat the girl who wanted to sit near your daughter at a table where there were empty spaces to sit. In order to accommodate her request, you would have had to move another guest from your daughter's table. It is not rude of you to choose not to ask one guest to give up a seat for another one. I don't see this as being an issue about your daughter's deafness, but more of an issue with one guest wanting to take precedence over another.

  • Look to see if there's a personal connection between Landlord and Disabled Karen and then look for any clauses in your lease, what they're doing is going beyond trying to help a disabled person, that's borderline harassment. They're singling you out because you're not bowing to their whim.

  • I read the comments on the marriage story. I dont agree with them. Marriage is a partnership, if only one part put in the work thats closer to slavery. If he cant understand that with this big hint, he is not mature enough to be in a relationship. He is not treating her as his partner in life but closer to a free service provider with benefits. I have been in her position and he was unwilling to change his habits even with clear communication which is why I am now a happy single.

    Nini RossauNini Rossau25 days ago
  • In the 1st story it's the manager's responsibility to take care of the parking situation. It's not OP's fault that she doesn't have room. Since he leased an apartment to someone with special needs he has to figure out a place for her to park. Not sure why he didn't think about that before because inevitably he'd need handicap packing. OP should be diving the car that was bought specifically for her use. I'm surprised she let him drive it so long before talking with him about it. The OP in the last story told her husband she needed a break and asked for help. The only thing I think she's at fault for is not restating beforehand something like, "I've asked you for help. I've told you I need a break. If that doesn't start happening in the next day or two I'm going to the cabin for a few days." BTW, the husband was child free so he could've had his own vacation.

  • If you own a dog dont leave it tied up at a store for any amount of time. Even if there is a place with water bowls designated to tie up dogs its very easy for a stranger to take your dog while your in the store for a few minutes and disappear forever.

  • Not a jerk. Where is that person supposed to park? And as they point out, they pay for the parking spot, so it's up to the apartment manager. I understand the woman's problem and agree she needs an accessible spot, but not at OP's expense.

  • Last story: you're def the jerk, sorry. You sound like you basically just worked and slept before, while he also worked and handled all of the domesticate duties. Then, he gave you a taste of your own medicine, so to speak, probably not on purpose, but out of pure exhaustion, and you took off without telling him. You are selfish and you are the jerk, sorry. And yall def have some serious communication issues. Although...you sound pretty naive considering he was giving you obvious clues HE needed help from you. It's funny too. You usually hear this kind of stuff from moms because all dad does is work and play. Not the other way around.

    AhlamkinAhlamkin25 days ago
  • I'm going to say dog lady is the jerk. Sorry, but given the extra info that the lady is a worker, and was trying to move the dog to the area with water dishes and leash hook ups, but hanging out until you got back, pretty clearly not theft in the process, and yea, she was just trying to do her job, albeit not very bright. You couldve explained to her the many reasons why you shouldnt try to help others dogs.

  • Parking guy isnt in the wrong. However, apartment manager is going to have a lot of trouble on his hands, since he doesnt have accessible parking for the disabled. Dude might lose his spot after all in the end when legal comes down on him. He might still get one in the lot, but it wont be nearly as close.

  • Don't know what that border collie's owner's issue is with folks admiring the dog---especially if they are respectful and ask permission. I mean the woman who untied the dog was a jerk, to be sure, but the owner is a wee bit of a jerk, him or herself---and yes, I have owned five dogs in my lifetime and worked as a kennel assistant in the late 90's....I NEVER had any issues with people petting my ANY of my dogs, as they were gentle and none of them were biters. A dog is a friend and family, not a possession you jealously guard. If it doesn't bite and is friendly...what's the problem???

  • the last story I feel there's some missing information, like what the husband does for a living that makes him come home at 1am it must be hard if it takes him a bit to relax before falling asleep not only that we don't know how many days off he gets just that he has some, and to up and leave without leaving a note or telling him anything is a pretty AH thing to do, could you picture what could have happen if he couldn't get in touch with her he might have called the cops to report his wife and son missing.

Let's talk about it and work something out so we can both have our needs met. It's affecting me too and I'm getting seriously overwhelmed. Op: Packs bags and leaves without notice.

    • @Sabrina McCoy I sympathize with you. I appreciate your view "from the other side" so to speak. From what I gathered from the story at it was read here, there's not much communication going on in that marriage. Of course, we all look at these things through our own experiences. Mine was a lack of communication and a feeling of not being seen in my marriage.

    • For 13 years, my now ex use to ask me what I wanted for my birthday, Mother's Day, Christmas, etc. The answer never changed. I wanted time to myself (full time mom of 4 kids/housekeeper and worked part time). He always thought I was joking. When I tried to talk to him about it, he would get very passive aggressive. Until the day I left for good. Sometimes, no matter how you put something or try to talk about what one needs in a relationship, it falls on deaf ears. I sympathize with her.

    • @TurtleDude05 you are correct. I think they need counseling or that marriage will not live long.

      j marinej marine25 days ago
    • @j marine I understand that. I was merely trying to adress the danger in that kind of thought process. If a person needs space or a getaway (even from a spouse.) that is perfectly understandable. But expressing that to a spouse is the healthy way to handle it. I think you are right, that OP was probably thinking that way. But I fear for their relationship if that kind of thinking persists. Especially as it doesn't seem like either is a bad person.

  • I don’t think you should give up your parking spot nothing personal you have a car and it is the building managers job to know that and she should not be keeping them in your pack by 30 in the morning and if she chooses to have a very large van then that’s her choice there are smaller vans available that could possibly stay in the sprays and everything and you are paying for an apartment with spacing for your car available for you

  • Story One: In front of the elevator, there should be an open area for people to stand. If the van uses the spot next to it and parks so their door opens to it, she should have enough space. The OP can then use the spot designated for the van owner (the space one spot over). This works if I understood the story and the spots locations correctly.

  • Regarding the glass-eye segment, how can some people be so self-delusional as to not believe what's printed on a clothing tag just because it's not what they want it to be? This wasn't even a case of claiming the clothing was mis-labeled; it was that the label was being read wrong.

    Bob BlumenfeldBob Blumenfeld26 days ago
    • @Bob Blumenfeld You would think! But, as someone who works in the industry I can confirm it does happen. Not often but, there are enough cases of it that it's worth mentioning. (Note this is more common in women's clothing than men's probably for cultural reasons.) Example 1: size 0 in most cases usually is around XS or even a XXS (yes this exists) but, if you shop at a plus size store like Torrid size 0 is much closer to what most people would consider a Large or XL. (In this case that is the smallest size the store offers.) Example 2: This one is much less obvious as both sizes are considered to be "regular/retail sizing" according to their respective companies but, I have noticed that in some Anvil shirts their Men's Larges are the the size of a Gildan's Women's Medium. I'm not sure why this is but, it sure caused a stir at the office when everyone got their free samples. XD As for the negative sizes you mentioned those too are a thing that can sometimes happen but, they are usually labeled as Petite or fitted sizing instead of -1, -2 ect. Edit: Sorry to info dump on you like that but, it drives me nuts when Karen's insist that something should fit because they are a size 2 when the very concept of a size 2 doesn't even mean anything!

      non-voidnon-void24 days ago
    • @non-void There may not be standard clothing sizing, but a four-size difference for the same physical measurements would make sizing totally useless for the consumer. A one-size difference I can see, but not four. Four would mean that the company with the Size 2 would have to go into negative numbers for the Size 6 company's size 3,

      Bob BlumenfeldBob Blumenfeld25 days ago
    • Random Nerd Fact that makes this even funnier is that there is no standard clothing size in the US you can be a size 6 in one brand and be a size 2 in another.

While there, the manager hated me...first off, i went to school with her son and rather than be a mom when he was...being a problem in school...she wanted ME to be his parent and keep him line...something I couldn't do. While there, an assistant manager was stealing...but she was smart and was specifically stealing from my register drawer...I also wasn't allowed to count my own register...nor was I allowed to even be in the room...so it kept getting pinned on me...I wound up going to work at a truck stop...A month later, the assistant manager got caught stealing money and goods from the store...But until the original manager (who was friends with the assistant manager) left, she would refer to be as a thief every single time she saw me. That second story gave me falshbacks to that

  • It does seem crap at how there wasn't a designated disabled space, but the landlord would have to sort that out. But OP wasnt kind either to a disabled person. To me, everyone sucks here.

    • He was kind to her, the first three times he went down to move. Then she started calling him at 5:30am. She was unapologetic, told him she intended to continue, regardless of his sleeping schedule. When he refused to give up his spot entirely, she and the manager probably planned to wear him down through guilt and endless inconvenience. She was nasty to him. He tried to be accommodating at first. It's all on the manager in the end, but she was very entitled.

    • @Joanne King so give the lady her way till a space opens up. Nope. He paid for a space.

      Cheyanne CatalanoCheyanne Catalano26 days ago
    • @Cheyanne Catalano I would disagree on that - we dont know what her condition is and how sound of mind she is. Why I said everyone sucks - it sounds like everyone should comprise until a solution is found, not just OP. He has his clauses in the lease and yes he doesn't need to give that up. But the landlord does need to sort it out.

      Joanne KingJoanne King26 days ago
    • He isn't required to be kind just because she is disabled. She seems of sound mind. He had a parking spot in his lease he isn't giving it up I understand it's not his fault it is the property manager

  • Story 1: This is the management’s problem for not having parking spaces designated for handicapped tenants and lifts. My solutions: the management purchases the disabled tenant a van with a rear-equipped lift, not side. Failing that, here’s the deal: I’ll give up my spot and risk street parking until a spot opens up in the apartment’s garage. Until that happens, I live rent-free. Either would probably be cheaper than a lawsuit and court-mandated remedies.

    Michael WestMichael West26 days ago
    • @karina ashmon not exactly. Her harassing the other tenant is a completely different issue than what she can bring to court. And to be honest, would still be on management since they gave her their number to call. The apartment complex in already against regulations. And from what it sounds like, dudes spot is exactly where they need the disabled spot to be placed. For that reason alone, dude would lose his spot by default thanks to the law and regulations. She has every right to have accessible parking, by law, regardless of any contracts that were previously signed by management that was already against regulation. Bottom line: when renovations come, due to the spot itself being next to the elevator, those two spots will become one wheelchair accessible. Either management must find him another spot in the garage, or rent is lowered. Tenants only have so many rights when a complex is already breaking the law. And not sure if I said it in this post or not, when that happens, he will be able to leave free of any issues since the contract was broken on the management's end. In regards to the harrassment case, the most the judge will do is issue a restraining order. But that's about it, and in this particular case, I dont see it happening. The lady wasnt completely out of the wrong expecting some sort of accomodation for her situation. She was just wrong with sitting there for longer than she should. Judge would look at both as being petty, and not worth the time. The reality is they are just two tenants put in a position for this type of stuff to happen. They're both victims of poor management, but too busy worrying about each other than dealing with the poor (crappy) manager together.

    • @karina ashmon I've lived in apartments for more than 40 years. There's always a space available, even if there are no handicapped tenants using it, because that's the law. It is Management's job to provide that space, because duh. You don't send a tenant out every day to fight the other residents for a spot. I get migraines, too. It sucks. The only thing to do is stay in a dark room all day and prey for sleep until it passes. But it's never put me in a wheelchair, because that's f**king stupid. You sound like you have some serious issues with actually handicapped people. Some people are addicted to victimhood and can't bare the thought of others getting any kind of attention. There's a lot of that going around these days, mostly in the red states.

    • @Ahlamkin actually op would not lose anything the apartment management and owners would be forced to make renovation to comply with ada rules or the new tenant would be told to move. Because op has been there longer and the disabilied lady would be shown to have been harassing op for her payed for parking space. Apartment legality is fun.

      karina ashmonkarina ashmon25 days ago
    • @MINDY ENGLISH oh let me geuss never lived in an apartment. Here's how it gose handicapped spaces are on the bottom floor like the apartments are and parking spaces are assigned to apartments. You rent you get the space assigned to you. You can't take someone else's nor can management force someone to give up what they are paying for in the lease. Apartment have to alot a certain amount 9f parking spot for disabilities. This brand is just rude. She didn't make sure the apartment could accommodate her needs. She leased anyway then started im disabilied you have to give me what ever I want. She intentionally mad ops live miserable. She effectively took ops space that op payed for inconvenience op. Amd management just went with it. No being disabilied dose not give you entitlement to what ever you want. I have osteoarthritis and chronic migraines I dont take spaces or expect people to give me priority. Thats bs and no . If you require a van space and the place does not have one eathet look in to a vehicle that will fit or look elsewhere to live. The lady was a keran. O yes she had a space but not the two she wanted. One space belongs to op who also signed a lease loan g before van kearn showed up.

  • The first story is very simple. OP is not the jerk. It is OP’s and 0P does not have to give it up for anyone especially an entitled jerk OP 0/5 “Disabled” woman 2/5

    Kaden LemonKaden Lemon26 days ago
    • you are correct but the wording it`s a bit harsh. it is the manager's fault for not having a proper parking spot before leasing the apartment. tat lady was entitled but she was promise parking.

    • @Chris Of Abyss They need to be reported they need to be ADA accessible and have Waze for handicap people to get into the business and everything like that and if they’re not 88 accommodated than they need to be reported to the health department and everything like that because they have to have some kind of wheelchair accessible parking and wheelchair accessible to the property to the building and everything like that if they don’t then they’re doing it in spite and also they could be fined and Have big lawsuit brought against them

      Steven LynchSteven Lynch26 days ago
    • @Steven Lynch So then why can others do the same thing right? I've seen plenty of hotels with handicapped parking spots and even more without it!! I'm sorry for your wife and I do hope her life gets a better highlight. 😄

Chris Of AbyssChris Of Abyss26 days ago
    • @Chris Of Abyss My wife is in apartment management and there are handicap accessible spots that are open for people with disabilities that need wheelchair access and that need that extra space to get in and out of their vehicles any apartment manager should know that and leave it open for those who need it the most
